Heavy Security as APC holds Rescheduled Primaries In Edo

Members of the All Progressives Congress in Edo State on Saturday trooped to their respective wards to elect their candidates in the rescheduled legislative primaries.
The exercise held earlier on Thursday across the 192 wards to elect the party’s candidates for the 2019 general elections into the three senatorial, nine House of Representatives and 24 House of Assembly seats were cancelled by the National Working Committee.
Although the decision had earlier been rejected by the state working committee, it later bowed to pressure from the national secretariat of the party.
The Chairman of the state primary election committee, Hajia Farida Suleiman, had told journalists on Friday evening that a fresh exercise would be conducted to ensure fairness and transparency.
Our correspondent, who monitored the primaries, observed that many of the party members voted by queuing behind the posters of their preferred aspirants.
There was also a heavy presence of policemen around the wards.
At Ward 4, in the Oredo Local Government Area of the state, party members were urged to display their membership cards to enable them to exercise their voting rights.
In the Esan West Local Government Area, it was learnt that the primaries did not record a large turnout of members.
